California - Retinal Degeneration, RG, AF
What: Retinal degeneration is the deterioration of the retina.
Why: This case demonstrates how capturing UWF autofluorescence may be useful as pathology is not always visible on color imaging or retinal exam.
In the Picture: This is a case that demonstrates the value of capturing multimodal optomaps. A female patient complained of poor vision and her doctor thought it was due to a droopy eyelid. She was referred to see Dr. Srinivas Sadda at Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles, California and on the same day, the Optos California was installed. The retinal exam and the optomap color image appeared normal, however the optomap af image showed areas of hypoautofluorescence in the nasal to inferior retina which corresponded to the area of visual complaint. The patient was diagnosed with Retinal Degeneration at the time.
