Positioning a Patient to Optimize your optomap Images
Proper positioning of a patient is central to capturing optimal images on your Optos device. It is important that your patients sit up straight with their feet flat on the floor for optimal imaging.
- Adjust the table height to align the patient’s canthus (the outer or inner corner of the eye, where the upper and lower lids meet) with the canthus markers on the device.
- Show your patient the self-alignment chart and explain that the target light will be blue if they are sitting too far away, will turn red if they are too close, and green when properly aligned.
- When you are ready to capture the image, your patient should look as if they are looking through a door’s keyhole. Your patient’s head should be turned slightly so their nose is outside the aperture (the hole in the front of the device).
- Keep your patient in this alignment prior to imaging.
