Reducing Lid and Lash when taking optomap Images

If an image has too much eyelid and/or lashes visible, it could negatively impact the quality of the review. Check that the height of the table and position of the patient are correct by utilizing the green light on the image target. Remember to politely instruct the patient to open both eyes as wide as possible.

If the image is still obscured by the patient’s lids and lashes, the amount of lid and lash can be minimized by gently lifting the patient’s eyebrow by following these steps.

  1. Always ask for the patient’s permission.
  2. With clean hands, place your thumb below the patient’s eye and your forefinger on the brow line.
  3. Gently open the eye a little further. Just lifting the upper lid may pull the lower lid further into the image.
